Weather & what to pack
July is Mongolia's warmest month — and still a land of four seasons in one day.
Naadam falls in high summer: Ulaanbaatar days typically reach 20–27 °C with strong high-altitude sun, while nights cool to 8–12 °C. Short, sudden thunderstorms — occasionally with hail — sweep through July afternoons and pass as quickly as they come.
The stadium's open stands and the steppe at Khui Doloon Khudag offer no shade. Bring a brimmed hat, high-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses and a refillable water bottle; add a light rain shell and a warm layer for evenings and dawn race starts.
Dust is part of the experience on the racing steppe — a scarf or buff earns its place in your bag. Comfortable walking shoes beat sandals everywhere: you will cover more ground than you expect.
Mongolia counts over 250 sunny days a year — the 'Land of the Eternal Blue Sky' usually delivers exactly that for Naadam.
